Yoplait S.A.S. to directly operate Yoplait IrelandYoplait S.A.S. announced today it has agreed to directly operate its chilled yoghurt and desserts business in Ireland, reacquiring the franchise rights to its Yoplait brands and products from its licensee, Glanbia plc.

General Mills to market Yoplait yogurt in CanadaGeneral Mills (NYSE: GIS) confirmed today that Yoplait S.A.S. has reached an agreement to terminate the current Yoplait brand license in Canada on September 1, 2012. At that time, General Mills Canada will begin to market, sell and distribute Yoplait yogurt products in Canada under license from Yoplait S.A.S. The current Canadian licensee, Ultima Foods, will continue to produce Yoplait branded products to be sold by General Mills Canada under a multi-year manufacturing agreement.

General Mills acquires Parampara brands in IndiaGeneral Mills announced today the acquisition of Parampara’s branded range of ready-to-cook spice and sauce mixes produced in Pune, India, and sold under the Parampara, StarterZ and Curry Tree brands. Parampara’s products are marketed primarily in the Pune region of western India and exported to countries like the United States, Canada and Japan.

General Mills Foundation celebrates Champions for Healthy Kids' 10th anniversaryThe General Mills Foundation, in collaboration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation, announced the recipients of its 2012 Champions for Healthy Kids grants. As part of the program’s 10 year anniversary, 10 ‘best of the best’ legacy award recipients were selected from previous Champions for Healthy Kids grantees. Each organization was awarded $50,000 to continue their proven programming to improve nutrition and physical fitness behaviors among youth.

USAID honors General Mills with global citizenship recognitionU.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah visited General Mills’ technical center in Minneapolis to recognize employee volunteers for their global citizenship. The recognition was given to General Mills for its work with food processors and small-holder farmers in Africa through its hunger-fighting nonprofit, Partners in Food Solutions (PFS).

General Mills marks strong year of health improvementsGeneral Mills today announced that it improved the health profile of products comprising approximately 25 percent of its U.S. Retail sales volume in fiscal 2011. General Mills first began tracking and quantifying health improvements in 2005. Between fiscal 2005 and fiscal 2011, the company has improved the health profile of 64 percent of its U.S. Retail sales volume. Improvements have included adding whole grains, fiber and calcium, and reducing calories, sugar, sodium and trans fats.

General Mills completes Yoplait acquisitionGeneral Mills announced today the completion of its acquisition of a 51 percent controlling interest in Yoplait S.A.S., and a 50 percent interest in a related entity that holds the worldwide Yoplait brands, from PAI Partners and Sodiaal in a transaction valued at approximately US$1.2 billion. The remaining ownership stakes in both entities will continue to be held by Sodiaal, France’s leading dairy cooperative.

General Mills pledges $1 million to fight hunger in MinnesotaGeneral Mills joined corporations and community partners from across Minnesota today to launch Hunger-Free Minnesota, a three-year initiative with the goal of sustainably adding 100 million meals annually for hungry children and adults in the state. General Mills has now achieved average sugar reductions of 14 percent on cereals advertised to children since 2007, with some cereals reduced as much as 28 percent in that period.
